Burj Khalifa Construction

Burj Khalifa, the 2722 feet tall, the tallest building in the world is one of the engineering marvel located in Dubai UAE. It was designed by the American based architectural firm Skidmore,Owings & Merrill (SOM). The architects and engineer who worked on this project were Adrian Smith and George J. Efstathiou.


In 2003, the design process of Burj Khalifa started and it took almost 3 years to complete. The SOM team worked with the Emaar properties developers, to build something which is not only the world tallest building but a symbol of Dubai’s uniqueness, innovation and ambition.
The inspiration behind this building is to keep religious aspect in the architecture of it which is islam and it is like a UAE’s native desert flower which is called Hymenocallis. The reason why the building is designed in the Y shaped floor is to bypass the sunlight on the building, through which air-conditioning can be reduced and more the energy efficient building can be.

A Dubai based real estate developer company Emaar properties developed burn khalifa. Mohammed Alabbar is the chairman of the company and was the founder of the company (1997). Emmar properties developed the few most iconic buildings in Dubai, in which Dubai Marina and Dubai Mall are also included.
Burj Khalifa’s construction started in 2004 and it completed in 6 years approximately, with over 10,000 construction laborers. The official opening of the building took place on 4th January, 2010.
Conclusion
This building is one masterpiece which is located in Dubai and a must go place for visitors and residents. The work done by SOM, which is appreciable.
